Stevenson Mining provides comprehensive contract mining services to the mining industry. Our services range from mine planning, design and management to water management, overburden removal and haul road construction.

Our Services
The Stevenson Group is the largest New Zealand-based company involved in contract mining. We pride ourselves in being a professional and innovative contract mining company in New Zealand, with a strong capital base to provide fully-funded services.

Ohai, Southland
In March 2005 we commenced a five-year contract for opencast coal mining operations for Solid Energy NZ in Ohai, Southland.
Rotowaro, Waikato
Stevenson Mining provided its expertise to Solid Energy’s Rotowaro Opencast Mine in a six-month contract for Leighton Contractors. We supplied a 10-member team of operators to the Rotowaro Coalfield, running a day and a night shift at the mine.
Stevenson Mining has supported the main contractor at Rotowaro with overburden removal, coal winning and coal processing for Solid Energy.

Past Projects
Stevenson has a long proud history in the New Zealand coal mining industry, which began in 1948 at Kopuku Mine (since renamed Kopako). We became involved in the overburden stripping operation, which soon developed into the largest of its kind in the country.
Our involvement in the industry continued with Glencoal Energy in the mines at Kopako, Renown and Pirongia.
In the past three years we have also successfully completed work for Oceana Gold’s Macraes Mine in Otago. Find out more about our past projects.
