Keystone bridge abutment, Hamilton
|
|
The bypass road will be approximately 2km in length and will provide a new free-flowing state highway route to bypass the congested section of Hamilton’s Avalon Drive from Rotokauri Road to Norton Road. Construction began in March 2007. Over 2000m2 of Stevenson Keystone® has been used in this major job. Stage 1 of the project saw Stevenson provide product and technical expertise for four underpasses, which were completed earlier this year. The overall project was initially expected to take two years to complete. The next stage of the project, construction of the railway bridge abutments, is ongoing. Stevenson offered a cost-effective alternative of Keystone® to the original design of precast panels. Keystone® is a good option for railway bridge abutments – they can take huge loads, and work extremely well in high seismic areas. In addition, by using Keystone® blocks, walls can be constructed in a very short time. A requirement of the project was that the walls had to be constructed within a very tight timeframe to minimise disruption to train scheduling. |
